[Review] A Touch Of Crimson by Sylvia Day

Synopsis: Adrian Mitchell is a powerful angel leading an elite Special Ops unit of Seraphim. His task is to punish the Fallen-angels who have become vampires-and command a restless pack of indentured lycans. But Adrian has suffered his own punishment for becoming involved with mortals- losing the woman he loves again and again. Now, after nearly two hundred years, he has found her-Shadoe-her soul once more inhabiting a new body, with no memory of him. And this time, he won’t let her go.

I read and read and read and I expected that this book would become better, but it was just absurd. Throughout the reading my face kinda looked like this

and I made faces like this

I liked the prequel with Raze and Kim, so I expected that this one would be as good as that. But no, it’s really disappointing. How did it get 4 stars at Goodreads by nearly 6200 ratings.

This book does not deserve a full review, so I will just give you a list:

  • Adrian: He acts like a real psycho at the beginning. He meet Lindsay just five minutes ago and has already a plan how to keep her with him, protect her and control her. He even calls it “micromanaging her life”. And I don’t get how he knows that Lindsay has the soul of his dead lover Shadoe. Did I mention that he is a jerk?
  • Lindsay: She goes with a totally strange guy to his home in a totally unknown city. Oh and if you did not know: she is a vampire hunter since 10 years and she got her throwing knives through airport security. No kidding. Apparently they have real lousy security. She tries to be independent, but she backs down way to easy. Also her thoughts did not make any sense.
  • InstaLust: Don’t get me wrong I have no problems with “lust at first sight” but only if it feels right. With this book is was just confusing. I don’t see why they are attracted to each other.
  • The writing was good, but it couldn’t save the book for me.
  • Sadly it’s a dnf for me, because I was bored out of my mind by this.

Can I have the time back that I needed to read this?

“Sisterhood of the World Bloggers” Award

Due to school and work I was not able to publish my usually friday post, so please take this award as an apology 😉

sisterhood1_zpsd02b6750

I was nominated by Diane from Brilliantly Novel for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award.
Thanks for making me a member of this sisterhood 🙂

The Rules:
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site.
2. Put the award logo on your blog.
3. Answer the ten questions they’ve set you.
4. Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer.
5. Nominate ten people.

Here are Diane’s questions:

1. Fantasy or Contemporary? Without thinking: Fantasy. I’m not a big fan of comtemporary, usually there is way too much drama for me. Some are nice, but those are the exception.

2. If you could recast ONE character in a movie adaptation, which one would you change? What actor/actress would you put in their place? I just talked about this with Nyze from Everything Nyze. I would switch Jamie Campbell Bower who played Jace in the TMI movie and I don’t really care who takes his part as long as it’s not him.

3. What book has made you cry the hardest? I’m not really the typ who cries while reading a book. I might have some tears in my eyes, but that’s all.

4. What is your favorite kind of blog post? I love TAGs, but they are kind of rare and not a every week thing, so I will pick the TOP TEN TUESDAY.

5. Salty or Sweet? Sweet, definitely. I can’t live without chocolate.

6. What book is currently at the very tip-top of your TBR? That would be “Wicked” by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

7. Do you lend out your books? Why or why not? That depends. If I know that the person takes as much care with a book as I do, then I will lend it out. But if a person, whose books just look bad, would ask, I would not so politely say no.

8. Pick your favorite book. If it were to be made into a movie, what one song would HAVE to be on the soundtrack?: One of my favourite books is Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh and the song that needed to be on the soundtrack would be “Take me or leave me” from the musical RENT. I always pictured Sienna singing this to Hawke. He did want her, but wouldn’t touch her (because of her age) but at the same time he did not allow anyone else to court her. The song just fits.

9. Standalone or Series?: I kind of tend to read standalone that are in a series at least with paranormal romance. I always want to know every story of every couple, so they all need their own book. Regarding Young Adult I choose series – way more fun.

10. Book covers: To judge or not to judge?: I totally judge them, which is just weird, because I have a Kindle and never look at the cover again. It’s just that 95% of the books with bad covers are just bad, so I’m kinda shallow.

My questions for you:

1. What is in your opinion the worst thing people do to books?
2. If you could switch places with a favourite hero / heroine for one day, who would you pick?  From what book / movie / tv show is your character?
3. What was the first video game you ever played?
4. What is your favourite fruit or vegetable?
5. Would you rather be a vampire or a werewolf? Or maybe something entirely different?
6. How many pair of shoes do you have?
7. What is your baddest habit regarding books?
8. Your favourite tv show at the moment?
9. If you could go back in time, what would you like to see?
10. Do you have pets?

I know, I know, these questions are a colourful bunch. I just wrote down what came to me first 😉

And here are my nominees:

Freya from Sound Of A Voice
Nyze from Everything Nyze
Emily from Emilinabooks
Lisa from Bookshelf Fantasies
Kerry from The Roaming Librarian
Sharmaine from Sharmaineloh13
Books and Palettes
Spectacle Aglow

Now I’m off to notify everyone of you 🙂

[Review] Touch of Seduction by Rhyannon Byrd

Synopsis: Sold into slavery as a child to a cruel taskmaster, tiger-shifter Aiden Shrader trusts no one. Not even his own kind. Yet as a member of the Watchmen—the organization of shape-shifters who keep watch over the ancient nonhuman races—Aiden is fiercely protective of the helpless. Never more so than when he’s asked to guard a little girl with witches’ blood—and her beautiful human aunt. A woman who arouses all of Aiden’s primal urges…urges he must resist.
To small-town schoolteacher Olivia Harcourt, the massive tiger-shifter with the glowing amber eyes is as much a dark mystery as the enemy stalking her. Yet Aiden is her only hope of surviving. Until their intense passion unleashes her own inner tigress with a ferocity that will make the evil Casus rue the day they messed with her family…and will take Aiden by seductive surprise.

[Review] Undefeated by Melissa Cutler

I normally do not post a review on wednesday, but I felt like doing it. So here it is 🙂

Book provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Synopsis: Yoga instructor Marlena Brodie is always up for a challenge, and her new job of snapping Bomb Squad out of their rut is definitely that, even though it means being in close contact with Liam McAllister, her high school crush gone bad. She can feel the damage pouring off of him—but also a wild and sexy strength that calls to her.
The Army turned Liam McAllister into a man, but as a combat medic, he saw far too much to ever be whole again. He’s not interested in the civilian world beyond his job as a carpenter, but he never stopped wondering what might have been with Marlena—and it isn’t long before she’s crashed through his carefully constructed walls. He longs for a new beginning with her, but to be the man she deserves, he’ll have to step out of his defensive zone and score the most important play of his life…

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR 11/25/14

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke And Bookish.
For future Top Ten Tuesday topics & info on how to participate, click here!

I saw a lot of people do this meme, so I wanted to give a try too. This weeks theme is: Books in my Winter TBR pile

  1. Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout: It’s the first in a new trilogy, so I hope it will be good.
  2. Blood Wolf Dawning by Rhyannon Byrd: I have to know Cian’s story, especially after what happened in Dark Wolf Returning.
  3. Cursed by Fire by Jacquelyn Frank: Again it’s a first in a series, so we will see 🙂
  4. Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh: I will finally get my own copy, so I have to reread it.
  5. Winters Heat by Cristin Harber: Never heard of this author, but I will give it a try. It has nothing to do with the winter season, the dude’s last name is Winter, just FYI.
  6. SEALS of Winter (Short Story Collection): I’m not sure I will read all of the short stories, but I will read at least two or three. This actually has to do with the winter season (at least it says so)
  7. Bound by Flames (Night Prince #3) by Jeaniene Frost: I’m waiting since a little bit under 2 years for this book. So I’m really happy that it will finally hit the stores in January 2015.
  8. Immune by Shannon Mayer: I still need to read this and the winter season makes it possible.

Okay, I’m through. I have no idea what else I want to read. I’m normally more like a spontaneous buyer/reader. It depends on my mood.

Next weeks theme will be: Top Ten Books I’m Looking Forward To In 2015

Teaser Tuesday #15 | First Paragraph Tuesday Intros #3

I decided to combine the Teaser Tuesday, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading, with the First Chapter ~ First Paragraph Tuesday Intros, hosted by Bibliophile By the Sea.

I needed a lot of time to decide if I really wanted to feature this today. I just don’t like it that much *cough* at all *cough*. The book is just ridiculous. No offense if you liked it.

Paragraph and Teaser from A Touch Of Crimson by Sylvia Day. Book #1 of her Renegade Angels-series.

Opening paragraph:

“Phineas is dead.” The pronouncement hit Adrian Mitchell like a physical blow. Gripping the handrail to counterbalance his shaken composure, he rounded a bend in the stairwell and looked at the seraph who ascended abreast of him. With the relaying of the news, Jason Tayler advanced into Phineas’s former rank as Adrian’s second-in-command. “When? How?”

Teaser from 25% / from the page I’m currently at:

She realized she knew little about the things she’d been hunting, which had made the killing so much easier. She was going to have to put them into context now, possibly humanizing them in process, while still slaying them.

[Review] Her Lone Wolf by Paige Tyler

Book provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Synopsis: It took everything she had for FBI Special Agent Danica Beckett to walk away from the man she loved. But if she wants to save his life, she has to keep her distance. Now, with a killer on the loose and the stakes higher than ever before, the Department of Covert Ops is forcing these former lovers into an uneasy alliance…whether they like it or not.
Seeing her again is even worse.
The last thing Clayne Buchanan wants is to be shackled to the woman who broke his heart. She gets under his skin in a way no one ever has and makes him want things he has no right to anymore. All he has to do is suffer through this case and he can be free of her for good. But when Clayne finds out why Danica left in the first place, everything he’s tried to bury comes roaring back—and there’s no way this wolf shifter is going to take no for an answer this time.

Rezept: Zimt – Apfel / Recipe: Cinnamon – Apple

Heute wollte ich auch mal einen Snack präsentieren. Ich hab das gerade selbst zum Frühstück gegessen und deswegen poste ich das jetzt auch. Das Rezept ist ziemlich einfach. / Today I have a snack for you. I just ate it for breakfast and that’s the reason I’m posting this. It’s pretty simple.

English version below under the orange line.

Do you know this feeling? You want to be healthy or balance out that you ate lots and lots of chips last night, but unhealthy things just taste better than eating healthy. And you don’t want to eat raw fruits neither?

FYI this is no lecture. I’m eating as unhealthy as you do 😉

Try out this “recipe” (I use quotation marks, because you don’t have to do much for this recipe ;)). I’m not sure where I found this snack idea, maybe YouTube?

You will need:

  • 1 apple (I always use the sweet ones, but if you prefer sour, go for it. No guarantee that it will taste good.)
  • cinnamon (If you don’t like it, don’t use it)
  • microwave

Now just cut the apple into pieces, sprinkle cinnamon on top of them (or not) and just pop it in the microwave for about 30 sec.

After that it literally tastes like applepie. Not like boring, old apple. Just try it 🙂

Leave a comment if you tried it 🙂

[Review] Hotter Than Helltown by SM Reine

Book provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Synopsis: A killer is mutilating bodies in Los Angeles. Agent Cèsar Hawke is on the case, but the murderer is ahead of him–way ahead of him.
Wiping the memories of the dead so that the team’s necrocognitive can’t talk to them? Done. Preventing magical reconstruction of the crime scenes? Oh yeah. And the murders keep getting more brutal while Cèsar struggles to catch up.
The best way to heat up a cold case is to go to Helltown, where Los Angeles’s most powerful evil hides out, but even those demons are afraid of the murderer. Their fear adds one more question to the growing pile of unknowns:
What kind of bad guy is too hot for Helltown?

Top Ten Tuesday: Sequels I Can’t Wait to Read 11/18/14

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke And Bookish.
For future Top Ten Tuesday topics & info on how to participate, click here!

I saw a lot of people do this meme, so I wanted to give a try too. I wanted to find out if I am able to reach 10 books and this weeks theme should make that possible – I hope 🙂

  1. Blood Wolf Dawning (Bloodrunners #7) by Rhyannon Byrd: I need this book. I have to know Cian’s story, especially after what happened in Dark Wolf Returning.
  2. Shards Of Hope (Psy/Changeling #14) by Nalini Singh: Even though I thought that Shield of Winter was lacking something, I still need this sequel. Like now.
  3. Untitled Immortal Guardians #6 by Dianne Duvall: I love this series and I’m sad that I have to wait a year between each installment.
  4. Every Last Breath (Dark Elements #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout: Book #2 ended with a freaking cliffhanger, so I need this. Yesterday.
  5. Bound by Flames (Night Prince #3) by Jeaniene Frost: I’m waiting since a little bit under 2 years for this book. So I’m really happy that it will finally hit the stores in January 2015.
  6. Untitled Shelby Nichols Adventure #7 by Colleen Helme: Okay, fine, I still haven’t read all of book #6, but I love this series, so I’m already looking forward to book #7.
  7. Vision In Silver (The Others #3) by Anne Bishop: I still need to get my own copy of book #2 Murder of Crows but I already read it, so I’m patiently waiting for this one.
  8. A Lush Kiss Of Surrender by Sylvia Day: It’s the second part of a self published novella of the Renegade Series, but I gave up the hope that it will ever come out.
  9. Untitled Guild Hunter #7 by Nalini Singh: If this book is again about Elena and Raphael then I will get mad. I need Naasir or Venom or Illium, I do not care which one, but please one of them!
  10. Untitled Purgatory #4 by Cynthia Eden: I guess there will be a fourth book, right? After the way Charming the Beast ended, there better be a sequel. I need to see how Pate tries to control his mate. That will be so much fun lol.

I did it! Four out of those ten are kind of cheating, but whatever 😉

Next weeks post will feature: Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR. I’m not sure if I will reach ten or five.
