Interview with Vicki Leigh, author of Find Me If You Dare

1. Tell us something about your book. Is it your debut? What genre does it belong to?

Find Me if You Dare - Front CoverMy book coming out December 1st, FIND ME IF YOU DARE, is the sequel to my debut, CATCH ME WHEN I FALL. They are part of my YA dark paranormal romance DREAMCATCHER series and tell the story of Daniel and Kayla, who are pulled into a warlock’s attempt to kick-start the Apocalypse.

>> Goodreads

2. Is your book part of a series or can it be read as a stand-alone?

FIND ME IF YOU DARE is part of a series. CATCH ME WHEN I FALL should be read first.

3. If you’re not writing, what do you love to do?

If I’m not reading or writing, I’m probably doing homework! I’m a criminology major at a university in Ohio.

4. Did anyone inspire you to start writing, if yes, who, or did you always knew you just had to write?

I’ve been writing since elementary school, but my biggest influencer was J.K. Rowling. I ache to, one day, write a series in which readers can get lost.

5. Any advice/tips for newbies?

Don’t give up! It’s so cliche, but the publishing business is tough, so it’s so easy to toss in the towel. But if you are persistent and are continually improving your writing, some day all the good things will happen.

6. Are you already writing a new book? Can you tell us a little bit about it?

I’m currently working on Book Three of my Dreamcatcher series, but I already have another story ready to go. Keeping the details under wraps for right now, but hopefully it’ll be something you’ve never read before.

7. A word that you use way too often? (Mine are “quite” and “probably”)

My favorite word to use is “just.” I’m always cutting a bunch in revisions!

8. When does your book release?

FIND ME IF YOU DARE comes out on December 1st!

9. Last but not least: What’s your favourite type of candy, if you don’t mind me asking?

I have a major addition to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. It’s kinda sad.

A Dark And Dangerous Hunger. . .

Smart and sexy, Emily brings out the alpha male in Colin, unleashing a wild desire that takes them both over the edge. . . But a twisted killer is leaving a trail of bodies in seedy hotel rooms across town. The male victims show no wounds–it’s as if the life was simply drained from them. And right now, mysterious Cara is Todd’s only suspect.

Cara knows it’s foolish to be so drawn to a man who thinks she’s a murderer. She also knows Detective Brooks would find the truth even harder to swallow. But now someone, or something, has singled Cara out for serious payback…

#3: Midnight’s Mastermidnight's master

In a world of shadows, desire conquers all…

Tall, dark, and formidable, Niol Lapen is the last demon on earth most people would ask for a favor, yet the sexy little reporter who wanders into his club dares to do exactly that. Holly Storm already knows too much about his kind, and Niol has no wish to help her get in deeper over her head. But working alongside her may be the only way to stop a killer, even as it ignites a primal desire unlike anything he’s known.

Holly has seen firsthand what Niol is capable of, but that doesn’t frighten her nearly as much as her body’s instinctive reaction to him, or the wild, fierce passion that would tempt her to follow him through hell itself. Something evil and relentless is prowling the streets of Atlanta. And as Holly’s search leads her into danger that even Niol could never have predicted, she’ll uncover a secret that could rip her world apart…

Interview with Sarah Glenn Marsh, author of Fear The Drowning Deep

1. Tell us something about your book. Is it your debut? What genre does it belong to?

Fear the Drowning Deep_coverFEAR THE DROWNING DEEP is my debut novel! It’s a historical fantasy for young adults.

FEAR tells the story of sixteen-year-old Bridey Corkill, who’s living on the Isle of Man in 1913. She’s hated the ocean ever since she was a little girl, when she saw her grandfather leap from the cliffs and drown with a smile on his face. As the story begins, Bridey sees a body washed up on the shores of Port Coire, her small town, and it isn’t long before her friends and neighbors start disappearing one by one. It’s up to Bridey to convince everyone of the danger in the water before she loses the people she loves most…

And here are a few things this story contains that I love: a handsome boy with a mysterious past, kissing, an old woman who might be a witch, lots of Manx culture and mythology, sea monsters, sisters, and kissing. Did I mention the kissing already? 😉

2. Is your book part of a series or can it be read as a stand-alone?

It’s a standalone (though a companion novel may follow)!

3. If you’re not writing, what do you love to do?

I do a lot of watercolor painting on the side. I’ve been taking lessons for over a year now, and I find it’s a relaxing creative outlet when I’m stuck with my writing! I also love to play computer/video games and tabletop games with my husband in the evenings. Some other things I love to do are: hang out with my four crazy dogs, research family genealogy, bake things, eat things I bake, and go antiquing—I collect mid-1800s dogs in English porcelain, and really old teacups!

4. Did anyone inspire you to start writing, if yes, who, or did you always knew you just had to write?

Well, I’ve got to give my dad some credit here. He gave me my first copy of The Hobbit and told me I’d love it—and when I finally read it, I realized he was right and wondered what I’d been doing with my life until then 😉 Now, I’m a huge fantasy reader, and Tolkien was one of my earliest writing influences (and remains a part of everything I do to this day!).

I also have my husband to thank for my becoming an author: he’s the one who saw my talent and pushed me to take writing seriously as a career—and most importantly, never to give up. But that’s a long story for another post!

5. Any advice/tips for newbies?

This is another topic I could ramble on about for days. But to keep things brief, what’s most important is to keep your head high and never stop believing in yourself. Always write the things you’d like to read, the things that make you happy or excited. –All that might sound pretty cliché, but you know why it’s true? Because even if you write an amazing story, there are going to be rejections. Heaps of them. Writing means dealing in the business of subjectivity, and if you dream of traditional publication, you’re going to have opinions hurled at you. Some days it’ll be a deluge. But if you’ve written the type of story you love and you have confidence in your ability, you’ll have the strength to keep trying. You’ll write more stories. And someday, you’ll get all the way to that dream offer of publication.

6. Are you already writing a new book? Can you tell us a little bit about it?

Most definitely! I’m always happiest when I’m writing fantasy. I won’t say too much yet, but here are a few things that feature in my recent YA epic fantasy: sisters, witches, mythical beasts, Japanese mythology, and diversity.

7. A word that you use way too often? (Mine are “quite” and “probably”)

“Really” “Totally” and “Love”—what can I say? I’m a happy person! 🙂

8. When does your book release?

September of 2016; about a year to go!

9. Last but not least: What’s your favourite type of candy, if you don’t mind me asking?

Kit Kat bars! But I’m not too picky; if it has chocolate and no nuts (I’m allergic), I’ll probably eat it.

Interview with Gwen Cole, author of Cold Summer

1. Tell us something about your book. Is it your debut? What genre does it belong to?

COLD SUMMER is about a teen suffering from PTSD—due to repeatedly being pulled back in time to the front lines of WWII—must find a way to stop the pulls from happening with the help of the childhood friend he secretly loves before he dies on the battlefield. It’s a debut, Young Adult novel.
>> Goodreads

2. Is your book part of a series or can it be read as a stand-alone?

It’s a standalone right now, as are most of my books. They have potential to have sequels, but I love standalone books the most because I love being able to start and finish a story in one book. A lot of book series feel drawn out to me, almost forced, so when I do get a book idea, I figure out if it’s going to be a series or not from the start.

3. If you’re not writing, what do you love to do?

I love to read, of course, master jigsaw puzzles, watch movies . . . I’m really quite a boring person, definitely a homebody, haha! But this fall, I’m actually in an adult softball league, so that’s been fun. My husband and I love to go to baseball games, but our favorite team is 16 hours away, so it doesn’t happen that too often.

4. Did anyone inspire you to start writing, if yes, who, or did you always knew you just had to write?

My sister actually told me to start writing. She was writing stories before I ever started, so one day she said, “You should try it!” And I haven’t stopped since.

5. Any advice/tips for newbies?

BE YOURSELF! I can’t stress this enough. Everyone compares their writing to someone else, but there is no comparing in the writing world in my opinion. Each writer/person is so unique, and you need to embrace yourself and your writing because those are your words, and yours alone.

6. Are you already writing a new book? Can you tell us a little bit about it?

This is a tricky question for me. Right now, I’m visiting some older manuscripts and editing them. In a way, they feel new because it’s been so long. But I also have a new book brewing in my head that I would like to start soon. I can’t say much, but it’s got pirates and deserts in it.

7. A word that you use way too often? (Mine are “quite” and “probably”)

Haha, yes! As my agent likes to point out, I use ‘that’ and ‘just’ way too enough. I think I’m starting to get a handle on it now, though.

8. When does your book release?

COLD SUMMER is set to release spring 2017 by Sky Pony Press.

9. Last but not least: What’s your favourite type of candy, if you don’t mind me asking?

This is such a hard question, because it could change day to day. But if I could only eat one for the rest of my life, it would probably be Kit-Kats. You can’t go wrong with chocolate and wafers.

Interview with Kat Green, author of Strings

1. Tell us something about your book. Is it your debut? What genre does it belong to?

stringsI have 2 books out at the moment. Strings & Encore, The Black Eagles trilogy. It’s Rock Romance with Mystery & suspense thrown in. It follows the lives of young people thrown into a world of fame. Strings starts with my main character Melissa, who is in hospital she has been attacked and her Rock Star boyfriend is missing. Melissa has to tell her story to the police, how she ended up there and the run up to Luke’s disappearance. They have to try and piece together every clue to try and find him. Encore follows on from the outcome of that and how they deal with the aftermath.

2. Is your book part of a series or can it be read as a stand-alone?

It is part of a series but it can be a stand-alone.

3. If you’re not writing, what do you love to do?

Blog for bands via my music blog and go to gigs, and spend time with my family.

4. Did anyone inspire you to start writing, if yes, who, or did you always knew you just had to write?

I always knew I wanted write since the age of 11. In 2010 I lost my mother to blood cancer and she was my inspiration to go for it. Life is too short and precious to think I will do it tomorrow. They might not be a tomorrow.

5. Any advice/tips for newbies?

Oohh, err. I still feel like a newbie writer myself. I can only say, follow what’s in your heart. Write what you need to and what feels right. Be at peace with the reality that not everyone will like what you do. Those that do are who you focus on and give you a reason to continue. Most of all have fun and be brave.

6. Are you already writing a new book? Can you tell us a little bit about it?

Yes. I’m working on the third and final book of The Black Eagles trilogy.

7. A word that you use way too often? (Mine are “quite” and “probably”)

I say’ Awesome’ a lot.

8. When does your book release?

Strings & Encore are both out now.

9. Last but not least: What’s your favourite type of candy, if you don’t mind me asking?

Any Kind! 🙂
