~ Excerpt ~

Ettore seemed to feel the same awareness that she did. The heat radiating from him was palpable, his touch at the small of her back light, yet searing. She wanted to feel his hands on her everywhere, not just in comfort or reassurance, but in passion.

He cursed as his eyes met hers, his hazel irises dark but glittering with flecks of amber. “For God’s sake, don’t look at me like that, sweetheart. I’m hanging by a thread here.”

I am too.” She couldn’t resist reaching up to him, letting her hands skim the firm muscles of his chest. “I’ve been hanging by a thread since you showed up at our vineyard with my brother all those years ago, Ettore.”

His heart was thundering. His pulse slammed against her palm, hammering like a drum. He searched her gaze for a long moment, his breath rolling in deep, panting gusts.

The curse that boiled out of him was sharp, hissed between his teeth and fangs. “I wasn’t expecting any of this. My first duty is to the Order. I have a mission to carry out. Until I’m certain I’ve completed it, I shouldn’t be thinking about anything else. Not even you. Hell, especially not you.”

Of course. I understand.” She glanced away, weathering a sting she hadn’t seen coming. “Ettore, I didn’t mean to suggest—”

He took her hand and hauled her against him, silencing her with a kiss. When he drew back from her lips, his gaze had gone molten. “I have no right to be thinking about anything but my duty to the Order. That’s what I keep telling myself, Arabella. But then I look at you and none of those other things matter.”

She swallowed, watching the fire dance in his eyes. His pupils were narrowed to thin black slits, and his fangs surged even larger behind his parted lips. The sight of his transformation sped her pulse, while at her hip, the hard steel of his arousal sent a current of hot need licking through her senses and straight into her core.

I walked away once,” he snarled. “God help us both, I don’t think I can ever do it again.”

About MIDNIGHT UNTAMED:

The mission was supposed to be simple. Infiltrate an enemy’s stronghold outside Rome and eliminate its leader. For a Breed warrior as lethal as Ettore Selvaggio, AKA “Savage”, stealth assassinations are only one of his many cold-hearted specialties. But the last thing Savage expects to find behind enemy lines—in his target’s bed—is a woman he once adored.

It’s been years since Savage last saw beautiful Arabella Genova. Years he’s strived to banish to his past, along with the fierce desire he once felt toward Bella . . . and the irresistible calling of her blood that stirs in him even now, despite the fact that she belongs to another male.

But when fate throws Savage and Bella together again in a race for their lives, will his long-lost love prove to be the one woman he can’t live without, or the perfect weapon to destroy him?

Jane isn’t entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn’t she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes—or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire—maybe do exist.

Except Brock Wellington isn’t anyone’s dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk—even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it’s karmic retribution that he’s tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can’t have. But while they can’t have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy . .

Excerpt: Chapter Four

Jane was pressed so tightly against the wall she would have sworn her body was starting to blend into the wallpaper. Most people didn’t give her a second glance. Then again, she wouldn’t give herself a second glance either.

Women with fake boobs and injected lips mocked her while rich men in three-piece suits completely ignored her.

She self-consciously tugged at hem of the short black dress. In a last ditch effort to modernize the dress, or at least add a bit of spice, she’d grabbed her mother’s long pearls, wrapped them around her neck twice and called it good.

But the minute they’d arrived at the party she’d wanted to disappear. Her sisters were already semi-drunk, thanks to the vodka they’d had in the car. Against Jane’s protests they’d taken shots while she drove. And then she’d paid for parking only to hear them whine that she had parked too far away.

They’d been here for twenty minutes and already she wanted to leave, or at least sit down, but most of the available space was taken by couples talking, eating…kissing.

She was surrounded by the beautiful and rich.

The only reason her sisters had even been invited was because they were complete and total social climbers, and had managed to gain an invitation from a friend who was an heiress to some french fry company.

A waiter passed by with champagne.

She grabbed a glass and downed the entire thing. It didn’t help her nerves, but at least the bubbles semi-calmed her stomach.

Her sweaty feet slid in her too-big red pumps as she pressed harder against the wall to alleviate the ache in her toes.

The music shifted to a loud techno song as the lights went from red to a bright white, and with a gasp she covered her eyes and then blinked a few times to clear her line of vision.

The jumbled sweaty bodies moved aside as the music changed to a slow song. There was just enough of a break for her to see across the room.

Oh.” It was all she could utter, really the only word she was capable of as her breathing picked up. Without thinking, she grabbed another glass of champagne from a passing waiter, suddenly awkward. What was she supposed to do with her hands?

Thick wavy auburn hair fell in disarray over his forehead. It was lush, shiny, perfect. Were guys born with hair like that? Or was his somehow chemically engineered? His full lips pressed together in a secret smile as the equally handsome man next to him said something, then erupted in laughter.

The first man stiffened, then shook his head. His broad shoulders seemed to grow tight as a drum. A slight tic in his jaw was the only clue that he was irritated or maybe outright angry.

And then his shoulders slumped as he was handed another drink and then another.

Nervous. He must be nervous. But what could a man like that possibly have to be nervous about?

He easily towered over most of the men in attendance. Suddenly his posture changed, then he smiled.

Jane felt her mouth drop open in shock.

Dazzling.

He was…like a duke or a lord or a prince from a storybook. Clearly, she read too many romance novels, but his entire presence demanded attention; screamed authority, importance, and sex. Lots and lots of sex.

Yes, his virility was a tangible thing, as if she could reach out and grasp it with her fingertips.

What are you doing?” Esmeralda yelled in her right ear, interrupting her blatant sexual fantasy about a complete stranger. Great. That’s what her life had come to. And sadly? It was the most fun she’d had all night.

Jane turned to Esmeralda, prayed for patience, and answered. “Sorry, I was just thinking.”

You’re so boring.” Esmeralda rolled her eyes. “No wonder you got dumped.”

Another fun fact? Esmeralda was mean when she was drunk.

The reminder of the breakup burned like acid.

It had been a year ago, not that it mattered. It still hurt that the last guy she’d dated had told her that although she was cute, she wasn’t really doing it for him anymore.

Right. Doing it.

Maybe that was because she hadn’t done anything for him or with him, and he found that lacking. But they’d only dated for a few weeks. Did normal girls do that? Put out after a few weeks? Apparently.

She wasn’t normal.

But if that was normal, maybe she was better off being strange.

Jane, are you even listening to me?” Esmeralda whined. “Essence needs you to dance next to her for a bit. I’m tired and tipsy. I want to sit. Plus your dress blends in enough that it won’t take attention away from her.”

No way. What? What had she just said?

Jane wrapped her arms around her middle. “I’m sorry, what?”

Without warning, Esmeralda grabbed Jane’s hand and jerked her toward the dance floor, causing Jane to lose her footing and crash directly into Esmeralda’s back. Then, like a domino, she slammed back into Essence.

Jane opened her mouth to shout out an apology, but Esmeralda was already too drunk to listen to reason. With determination in her eyes, she reached for the pearls at Jane’s neck but grabbed the fabric of the dress instead.

Her poorly sewn dress ripped instantly, causing the fabric to slink past her strapless bra. A diagonal slit split up her thigh almost all the way to her hip. In an effort to cover herself, she took a step and tripped, thanks to her clunky shoes.

And then she fell to the floor.

Hard.

Her sisters watched in horror—but neither of them offered a hand. They were probably kicking themselves for forcing her to come. Esmeralda leaned over but missed Jane’s shoulder by a mile, grabbing her hair and giving it a tug, which only made Jane wince harder.

Both sisters were completely tanked.

And she was less than two minutes away from being trampled by the other sweaty bodies around her.

She glanced up.

And into the eyes of the man she’d just been lusting after.

Oh God, the humiliation was complete.

That one glance told her he’d seen it all. She swallowed back the thickness building in her throat. Of course the only time he’d notice her would be when she’d ripped her dress and nearly took out a few guests on her way down to the dance floor.

The crowd gathered around her.

And the sexy man disappeared—probably off in search of a girl with perfect hair, perfect teeth, perfect clothes.

She really should have stayed home.

Tears filled her eyes as a heel pressed into her right hand. With a jerk she tugged her hand free, struggling to get up to stand on her wobbly feet, when suddenly she was pulled to a standing position and then swept up in strong arms.

Jane’s eyes were still so blurry from unshed tears she couldn’t make out the man’s face as he carried her out of the crowd.

He smelled like heaven.

She fought the insane urge to press her face against his chest and just…close her eyes.

Because he felt safe.

Pathetic, when a stranger’s arms provided more safety than her own family. And yet he felt…right.

In a world where things for the past ten years had felt so wrong.

He felt right.

Maybe she’d had too much champagne.

Are you all right?” he whispered in a deep voice with a hint of a southern drawl. He’d brought her into a private room where the music wasn’t quite so deafening.

He set her on one of the black leather couches and shut the door, muffling the music on the other side.

Blinking, Jane glanced up and gawked, like a starry-eyed teenager. He was the same man she’d seen earlier, the one she’d been captivated by. “Yes.”

Yes?” He looked confused. His amazing eyebrows drew together, and a small line creased the center of his forehead. Even the line was gorgeous, just as gorgeous as the rest of him.

His thickly muscled body screamed power. Her hands slid down the front of his chest. Even his shirt was smooth. She didn’t realize she’d been basically petting him until his muscles tensed beneath her palm. Oh crap.

I mean, yes, I’m fine.” She tried to stand then fell back down; her stupid heel was broken. “Or I was fine, until I got trampled.”

The line in his forehead deepened. “You’re not hurt, are you?”

Jane shook her head then pressed her hand to her chest and gasped out, “My pearls!”

Wait here.” He held out his hands. “I’ll get the necklace, I’m sure it’s where you fell and—”

No.” Jane slumped, defeated. “They broke off when my sis—” She corrected herself, not wanting to claim the crazies in the other room. “They broke apart when I fell.”

The man sighed loudly and ran his fingers through his perfect hair. “I’ll talk to the club manager and see if anyone turns them in.”

It was on the tip of her tongue to give him all the many reasons why they were irreplaceable, but instead she settled with, “That’s really not necessary. It’s not your fault I was a victim of the techno craze.”

His upper lip curled. “I hate techno.”

Me too.”

Is there something I can do? Anything? You promise you aren’t hurt?”

Careful or you’re going to have me believe you got me trampled on purpose in order to trap me in a private room,” she joked as a smile tugged at her lips.

Had I known you were willing, I wouldn’t have had to go to such extremes to orchestrate it.”

He appeared stunned by his own answer.

Her breath hitched. Was he flirting with her?

His crystal blue eyes twinkled with amusement.

So…” Her voice was hoarse, like an old woman’s. Great. “I should probably get back to the party.” Why did she need to go back again? All the reasons seemed to disappear as he maneuvered around the couch and popped a bottle of champagne that had been chilling in a nearby crystal bucket.

Why don’t you and I have a drink first?” He peered around the table. “I’ll need to send for some shoes. It’s the least I can do.” His gaze heated. “Shoes are appropriate to purchase for a stranger. A dress, I’m afraid…” The corners of his mouth tilted into a sultry smile as his eyes slowly raked over the scraps of fabric barely covering her breasts. “Not so much.”

Did people do that these days? Just send for shoes? Who was this guy? “Really, it’s not necessary. I’ll just stick to the shadows so I don’t scare anyone with my limp and I’ll be okay.” She sounded more confident than she felt, and her lower lip trembled a bit. Next time she was going to hold her ground, stay home, read a book, and be plain boring Jane. This wasn’t her scene. Not by a long shot.

He leaned in close, so close she could smell his aftershave again. “A woman like you doesn’t belong in the shadows.”

Uncomfortable, she tried to make light of the situation again. “Wow, a hero and good with words. I bet you’re just a regular handful, aren’t you?”

Me?” He laughed as if the thought was the funniest thing he’d ever heard. “No, that would be my twin brothers. They’re the handfuls. I’m…” He seemed to think about it. “Just Brock.”

Well, Just Brock…” Jane held out her hand. “I’m Just Jane.”

His hand completely engulfed hers as their palms pressed against one another. He was so warm. And big.

Huge.

Huge hands. That meant something, right?

Crap, she was still shaking his hand, and he was grinning at her as if it was the funniest thing that had ever happened to him. And he was looking at her. At her eyes, not at the fact that she was half-naked on a couch, with a broken shoe.

With a jerk, she pulled her hand back and nervously reached to tuck a stray piece of hair behind her ear.

So, Brock.” Jane looked down at his shoes. That was safe. Shoes. Nothing sexy about a man’s feet, right? Except his were inside shoes that she ventured probably cost more than she’d ever see in a lifetime. “About those shoes.”

Shoes.” He repeated the word and then quickly stood. “Right, just wait here.”

He disappeared, giving her the breathing room she absolutely positively needed, only to re-appear a few seconds later.

Without shoes.

She frowned; then again, what had she expected? That he’d bang some plastic Barbie over the head with his cell phone, steal her shoes, and then toss them to Jane?

Brock studied her. “Your shoes should be here within the next fifteen minutes. I just sent my degenerate brother across the street. Saks is still open. The night is young.”

Saks?

Shoes from Saks?

She’d never owned anything from Saks. Ever. But she knew the store; didn’t every woman? Still, the most expensive thing she’d ever owned had been the pearls.

That’s really…” She waved her hand in the air and stood. “Not necessary…you can tell him that—”

Brock reached for her hand and lightly tugged her back. “Sit. It is necessary. And although I typically wait until the third date to buy a woman gifts, I think your nearly getting trampled allows me to break that rule.”

Still tense, Jane nodded and took a shaky look around the small, private room.

To new shoes?” Brock grabbed his drink and lifted it in the air toward her.

She lifted her glass and clinked it against his then took a small sip. The champagne was pink and sweet, with a tart aftertaste. “It’s good.”

You sound surprised.” Brock’s lips lifted in a smile.

She scrunched up her nose. “I’m not much of a drinker, and I typically don’t like drinks that are the same color as my underwear.”

The minute the words were out of her mouth, she froze, barely managing to suppress the urge to clap a hand over her mouth. She wanted someone to run her over with a car.

With a choke, Brock nearly spit out the sip he’d just taken. Face flushed, he stared her down and then whispered, “You’re making me regret my decision to send out for boring black shoes.”

I didn’t…I mean, pink is fine.” Stop talking, stop talking. “Not all of my underwear is pink. I have black, too.”

Brock’s lips parted with a greedy exhale, and he downed the rest of his drink. “Oh?”

Hell in a handbasket.

Why was she giving him a rundown of her lingerie drawer? As if he were a naughty Santa with a checklist in front of him, putting down little marks on the little boxes that read “red lacy thong”? Check. “Black boyshorts”? Double check.

I’m more of a boxer brief sort of guy,” he said smoothly, bringing her back to the present.

Huh?”

Too far?” He chuckled. “I figured if I knew the color of yours…I should at least show you mine.” He leaned forward.

Had he said show?

Just how drunk was he? Maybe that was the reason his eyes were zeroing in on her mouth. He blinked, and then seemed to sway a bit.

Was he okay? And why was he still staring at her mouth? Did she have something on her face?

Self-consciously, she pressed her fingertips to her lips only to have him suck in a breath and lift his right hand from his thigh as if wanting to touch the place where her fingers had just been.

Got the shoes!” a male voice yelled as Jane jerked away from Brock.

What had just happened?

Holy shit, you’re hot.”

She recognized the man from before. He was about an inch shorter than Brock, but had the same perfect auburn hair. “I’m Bentley, and since this one’s about to get married, I feel like it’s only fair to let you know that out of the two of us, I’m the single, available one, who’s also—lucky for you—been given a higher rating in the sack.”

Married?

He was getting married?

And hitting on her?

Or was she hitting on him? After all, she was the one who’d mentioned underwear. Ugh, she wanted to crawl under the table and die.

A Sorceress of His Own (The Gifted Ones, #1) – http://amzn.to/2azImN6

qandawithdianneThank you Emalie, for letting me visit and for helping me celebrate the upcoming release of RENDEZVOUS WITH YESTERDAY! I’m so happy to be here today.

1. How much fun is it for you to integrate your Immortal Guardian characters into the Gifted Ones series?

It is extremely fun. I think Seth, Roland, and Marcus will always be favorite characters for me because they’ve been with me longer than any others. I actually wrote A SORCERESS OF HIS OWN before I began my Immortal Guardians series, but publishers at the time had little interest in historical romances that contained paranormal elements. But Seth, Roland, and Marcus sparked my curiosity and fired my imagination so much that I kept asking What if . . .? questions until the answers led me to my Immortal Guardians books. I particularly enjoy seeing Marcus as a mortal teenager in A SORCERESS OF HIS OWN and RENDEZVOUS WITH YESTERDAY, so lighthearted and carefree. It’s a side of him that didn’t really reveal itself again until after he met Ami eight hundred years later. And seeing Seth and Roland in the Middle Ages is a lot of fun as well.

2. How many books do you intend to write for the Gifted Ones series?

I don’t have a specific number in mind. As a writer, I’m a pantser rather than a plotter. Instead of determining ahead of time how many books I will write in a series, which characters will get their own book, in what order, and exactly what will happen in each novel or novella, I let the stories unfold as I write them and often don’t know until the end of my current work in progress whose book will be next. So as long as stories that revolve around gifted ones (men and women who were born with special gifts, like telepathy, telekinesis, the ability to heal with one’s hands, etc.) dance through my head, I will continue to write them.

3. Since I haven’t had the chance to read Rendezvous With Yesterday I have to ask: Does no one miss Bethany from her original time? How does that work?

Hmm. That’s one I can’t really answer without spoilers. I can tell you though, that Bethany has an older brother—her only living relative—who is also her best friend. And (I don’t think this is much of a spoiler since I allude to it in the blurb) the fact that she goes back in time and he doesn’t is a serious concern for her because she doesn’t know what happened to him.

4. If you had to rewrite one scene in Rendezvous With Yesterday which one would you pick?

I’m actually happy with RENDEZVOUS WITH YESTERDAY the way it is. I did, however, include a Bonus Scene in it. It’s a scene I really liked that originally took place near the end of the book. But it features Marcus, and this is Robert and Bethany’s story. So I ultimately decided to remove it and include it as a Bonus Scene that I thought would interest both The Gifted Ones and Immortal Guardians fans.

5. Which character is the one that you can relate to the most: Bethany or Alyssa (A Sorceress of His Own)?

Well, I like that both women are strong, intelligent, loyal to those they love, and are brave even when afflicted by fear and pain. Neither cowers in the face of adversity. And I like the way both women react and adapt to the huge changes their lives undergo. But I think I relate more to Bethany . . . and not just because she’s from the same time as I am. It’s her personality. Her sense of humor. Her tendency to tease (or taunt in the case of Sir Stephen—LOL) and spark smiles and laughter from those around her. Laughter has always been a big part of my life, even in dark times. So I can really relate to her quips, jests, and playful banter.

Excerpt:

I followed her movements, which then forced me to take a good look at her.
She had come in with a gray hoodie, the one she’d stolen from me the first time
she beat the crap out of me in a fight. In my defense, I wasn’t able to really hit
her because she was a girl. I learned soon after that how wrong I was; she was
tougher than most guys I knew. She boggled my mind for so many reasons.
Right now, though, she wore it over a black short skirt, tights, and boots with
three-inch heels. A belt with a big, diamond square buckle hugged her waist.
How she made it look stylish, I had no clue.
“Does that really go together?”
I asked, pointing at her outfit.
“Not really, but it’s cold.”
She smiled, and proceeded to open the belt and take off the hoodie. Underneath it, I found out what an hourglass figure truly looked like. She wasn’t too skinny; she had meat on her, but it was in pretty good proportions. Her black, very tight, long-sleeved top was immediately adorned with the belt she’d taken off, accenting her tiny waist. And her hair?
Well, she even had it loose. It was long and silky. I’d always thought of her as my sister, but this chick didn’t look like she should be anyone’s sister. She sat down next to me.
“What’d you do to your hair? And are you wearing makeup?”
Her brows creased.
“Don’t make fun of me.”
“Well, it looks funny. You —”
I stopped at the look of murder that crept in her eyes.
“It looks nice, it’s just different. I didn’t think you liked being girly.”
“I’m a girl. How can I not be girly?”
“You know what I mean; you are more of a tomboy.”
“That was because I was still trying to learn how to be out in the field and use my powers. Now that I know how, I think it’s perfectly fine to dress up if I want to.”
“Right. Come on, you only dress up for missions if you have to. Like at the club,” I said, laughing. “Even in training you were always more boyish.”
“I was not.”
She frowned.
“Yes, you were. How did you even learn to put on make up? You probably practiced all weekend —”
I saw her fist coming at my face and teleported right on time. Unfortunately, Ryan fell over. I went to pick her up but she stopped
me. Shit. I’d pissed her off real bad. If I was not mistaken, her blue eyes were a bit teary.
“You are an ass.”
“Dude, I’m sorry. I was just kidding. I’m not used to seeing you as a girl,”
I said, and dashed to the door. Man, that was perfect timing on Chris’s part to
ring the bell.
“Well, get used to it. And stop making fun of me or I’ll give your face some scars to match your brother’s.”
“That’s harsh. Jeez,” I said, rubbing my face.
Chris walked in at the same time, and said, “Hey, you look pretty, Ry.”
“Don’t be a prick,” she said and got up. “We have to go.”
“I’m not,” he said frowning. “What’s up with her?” he asked me in a whisper as we followed her.
“It’s not you. I made fun of her before, so now she is all defensive, like it’s our fault she suddenly decided to be a girl.”
“She looks nice as a girl,” Chris said, checking her out walking down the hallway.
I shrugged.
“I guess. But she’s the one who always made fun of them and now she’s all dressed up. Look at her skirt, too tight for her own good — what are you doing? Stop staring at her. She’s going to melt your eyes if you don’t stop.”
“I’ll make her forget,” he said with a grin. “You and your hypnosis. Do you ever confront anything head on, or do you always modify your way out?”
“Modify my way out. Why deal with crap if I don’t have to?” He shrugged.
“Good thing you’d never do that to me,” I said to Chris. “Wait, what was
that look? Dude, that would be very un-bro-like!”
“It would be.”
Chris smiled, and hurried out behind Ryan.

The only hope of saving their race is to surrender their hearts.
WAKING EDEN
Eden Series #3
Rhenna Morgan
Released July 26th, 2016
The only hope of saving their race is to surrender their hearts.
With a long foretold and annoyingly vague prophecy warning of immense change for Eden, Ramsay Shantos is forced to hunt words and legends instead of rebels. For a man of action, it’s the worst kind of agony. Until he encounters a sexy librarian who bears the fated prophecy’s mark. A mark no human should possess.
Tortured by her mixed heritage, Trinity Blair has enjoyed little human touch in her life, let alone intimacy. Even the most innocent contact fills her mind with a person’s deepest, darkest secrets—except for Ramsay. Her immunity to his thoughts sparks a fragile hope
that she might finally experience the passion of her Dark Spiritubrethren…unless he’s the dangerous crossroads her father predicted.
When knowledge of Eden goes viral in the human realm, Trinity is Ramsay’s only hope for quelling mass panic. Can he risk revealing the secrets of his race to the guileless ray of sunshine? Or is she the unknown source of Eden’s destruction?

Excerpt

Ramsay’s voice was quiet behind her, peaceful, and yet a little sad. “My dad brought me here when I was little. The only time I remember ever having him to myself. Eryx and I had fought about something, a worse blow up than normal. Dad thought me having a place to go and gather my thoughts might be in the best interest of the whole castle.”

Trinity paced her breathing and kept her eyes locked on the majestic sun as it tipped into the teal water. She could see this sight tomorrow, or the day after, but the story bubbling up from Ramsay’s memory was huge. The intensity of it crackled and snapped around her.

Aside from Eryx, I’ve never brought anyone here, and even he has only been a time or two.” He pulled in a slow breath. “It was the only thing I had of my dad I didn’t have to share with anyone else.” His fingers tightened on her shoulders. “I wanted to share it with you.”

Honest to God, a battering ram couldn’t have impacted her senses more than his simple, heart-felt gift. She was dumbfounded. Too stunned and humbled to formulate even the basest response.

Look at it, Trinity. That sunset is the same impression you made on me the first time I saw you. Powerful. Colorful. Bright and warm.” He slid his hands around her waist and wrapped her up tight, his mouth at her ear. “Every time I see or think of you, this is what fills me.”

She tried to turn, her body and senses clamoring for eye contact. To anchor herself in his steel-gray eyes.

He stopped her with a flex of his arms. “Not yet. I need you to watch it until it’s gone. To know that it’s the last sunset you’ll see without a mate. And know that the sunrise we watch tomorrow will be ours.”

[Blog Tour] Phantom Embrace by Dianne Duvall ~ Q&A + Review @DianneDuvall @AuthorsTaproom

Image_PE_TourBadge
I’m so excited to share with you a new release coming from one of my favorite authors! Dianne’s Duvall’s Phantom Embrace will be available at eBook retailers everywhere on June 28th! This is an exciting and captivating novella set in the world of the Immortal Guardians and I can’t wait for you to read it!
review
I already knew how Phantom Embrace would end, since I read the other books in the Immortal Guardians series, but this novella makes the end of Night Unbound so much more bearable.
The relationship between Yuri and Cat was cute and heartbreaking and I kind of hope to hear from those two again in a later Immortal Guardians book, but I’m not sure if it will actual happen. Only time can tell. Make it happen, Dianne!

I can’t wait to read more of the immortal guardians and this world.

~ This novella can – at least in my opinion – be read as a standalone ~

Rating: 4 starsAbout the book

Phantom Embrace
(Immortal Guardians #5.5)
by Dianne Duvall
ebook, 112 pages
ISBN 1420143530

Across dimensions . . .

Born with the ability to see spirits, immortal Yuri Sokolov avoids making contact with them, because such has always yielded negative results…until lovely Cat Seddon begins haunting his home and his dreams. As a new threat rises against the Immortal Guardians, Yuri disregards all the rules so he can be with Cat, even though the consequences are substantial.

For centuries, Catherine Seddon has been alone. When her brother is forced to join the Immortal Guardians’ ranks, she haunts the primary home of the powerful warriors to keep an eye on him, and soon finds herself captivated by Yuri. The handsome Russian immortal swiftly banishes her loneliness as friendship grows between them and deepens into love.  But can two people who are unable to touch find a future together?

Dianne: Thank you, Emalie, for helping me celebrate the release of my Immortal Guardians novella PHANTOM EMBRACE. I’m so happy to be here at Bookgatherer.

It’s a pleasure having you here!! Now starting with the Q&A…

When did you get the idea to match Cat and Yuri?

Dianne: I have wanted to give Cat her own story ever since I wrote the first book in the series, DARKNESS DAWNS. But I didn’t find the right hero for her until I wrote the fifth book, NIGHT UNBOUND. After I finished that one, I knew Yuri was the perfect hero for her. And I really wanted Yuri to have his own HEA.

I’m quite sure I’m not the only one wondering, but now that Yuri and Cat have found their happily-ever-after will we be seeing them again?

Dianne: You definitely aren’t the only one wondering. Normally I don’t like saying much about future books, but so many have asked me that I’ll say . . . Yes, you’ll see Yuri and Cat again. I just won’t say when or where.

How did you feel when you hit the end of Phantom Embrace?

Dianne: I felt great. Cat’s long years of loneliness ended with her finally getting the HEA I’ve been wanting to give her. And Yuri found the love for which he has been waiting centuries. After all that happened in the last book, that was important to me.

Did you have a favorite song or even a playlist while writing Phantom Embrace that you would like to share with us?

Dianne: I admit to being partial to Disturbed’s Down With the Sickness, since the immortals and vampires in my series gain their superior speed, strength, and heightened senses from a rare symbiotic virus that infects them. But I generally prefer to write in quiet.

Who is your favorite character out of all of your books – yes, I’m aware that’s like picking your favorite child.

Dianne: That is such a hard question to answer! But if I absolutely have to choose a favorite, it’s Seth. Seth is the immensely powerful leader of the Immortal Guardians. He works so hard to provide the other immortals with a warm family environment, and sacrifices so much for them. And Seth has been with me for a very long time. I first created him years ago for A SORCERESS OF HIS OWN (the first book in The Gifted Ones series). His presence in that one (and that of Alyssa, the heroine) fired my imagination and inspired many of the what-ifs that led me to create my Immortal Guardians series. So without Seth, neither of my series would exist . . . which is also why I can’t wait to give him his own book.

But before dealing with his out-of-control partner, he had to give a long overdue situation report to the kid that Mason Hunt had left in charge of their headquarters while the rest of the Equalizers were out of town on other missions—the most recent addition to the team, Devlin Buchanan’s baby brother, Austin.

Having never been to the Equalizer’s headquarters, even though he knew where it was, Jace had yet to meet Austin in person. And he knew very little about him except that he’d recently gotten out of rehab. For what, Jace had no idea. What he did know was that every time he’d spoken to Austin on the phone, he came away with a sour taste in his mouth. The twentysomething-year-old kid had a prickly attitude that rubbed Jace every way but right. He braced himself for another unpleasant conversation and set his phone in the console on speaker mode.

This is Jace, calling in the sitrep.”

It’s about damn time,” Austin’s gravelly voice bit through the phone.

What’d you do, take a side trip down the Colorado River? You should have called an hour ago.”

Where’s Ramsey?” Jace was determined not to rise to the bait.

Wasting my time and making me wait, just like you. He hasn’t bothered to report in.”

Probably because he didn’t like Austin any more than Jace did. Or maybe because he didn’t want to admit he’d screwed up.

I imagine Ramsey’s reluctant to face us after his showboating. And he got way too serious with his role as bad guy, waving a gun around and shooting at me. He risked being recognized when he got out of the van, and now my classic muscle car looks like Swiss cheese.”

Hold it. What are you blathering about? Ramsey got out of the van? And shot at you?”

Blathering? Was this kid a jerk to everyone, or did he pull out the special treatment just for Jace?

That’s what I said. It’s only through luck and the grace of God that no one got hurt.”

The sound of typing echoed through the phone. “Yadda, yadda. Whatever. Back it up. Tell me exactly what happened. And make it quick.”

Are you always a jackass, or is this a side effect of your stint in rehab?” So much for not letting the kid get to him.

Bite me, Atwell. Tell me what I need to know.” Jace reined in his temper and answered Austin’s questions. “In spite of Ramsey’s escapades, everything worked out, even better than hoped. I’m supposed to report to EXIT Inc. tomorrow morning to see about at me. He risked being recognized when he got out of the van, and now my classic muscle car looks like Swiss cheese.”

Hold it. What are you blathering about? Ramsey got out of the van? And shot at you?” Blathering? Was this kid a jerk to everyone, or did he pull out the special treatment just for Jace?

Bite me, Atwell. Tell me what I need to know.” Jace reined in his temper and answered Austin’s questions.

In spite of Ramsey’s escapades, everything worked out, even better than hoped. I’m supposed to report to EXIT Inc. tomorrow morning to see about a job. Looks like I’ll be the inside mole for the next few days, or weeks, or however long it takes to bring EXIT down.”

Time-out, genius. Something isn’t right. Ramsey’s not the type to do what you said he did. He wouldn’t go off half-cocked.” Jace sat up straighter, his irritation forgotten in lieu of the alarms that were starting to go off in his head. “I’ve only known him for a few months, so I can’t predict his behavior. How long have you known him?”

Long enough. Plus I’ve got detailed files on all of the Equalizers. And I’m telling you this doesn’t fit his profile. Are you sure he’s the guy you saw?”

A cold feeling of dread settled in the pit of Jace’s stomach. He checked his mirrors and pulled to the shoulder of the road. Then he tried to picture Ramsey, superimposing him over the image of the gunman. At first blush, they matched up: about six feet tall, muscular build, Caucasian—something he was certain of because the gunman hadn’t worn gloves. And there was nothing remotely female about those hands or the person who owned them, so he discarded the possibility that the person underneath that ski mask could be a woman. But had the gunman been standing up straight? Or had he hunched down against the cold? If so, he could be even taller than six feet, opening up more possibilities about his identity. But if the gunman wasn’t Ramsey, who was he? And where was Ramsey?
