Synopsis

Soren:

You know what’s not fun? Going on a Fiji vacation with four other couples. Especially when recently single.

What’s even worse is when a past hook-up arrives unannounced.

Not only do we have a history, but he’s ten years younger and a famous rock star. Most importantly, he’s my friend’s little brother.

Being trapped on an island with Jet Jackson is going to be sweet torture because all I want is another chance. I just don’t think he’s going to give it to me.

Jet:

You know what’s not fun? Escaping one guy who broke my heart only to run into another.

Being on the road for three years has left me exhausted. The last thing I want is for Caleb ‘Soren’ Sorensen to try for round two.

I can’t fight my draw to him. I’ve never been able to.

I’m suddenly back to being the naïve kid who stupidly lusted after a hockey player.

All I can think is if I let Soren get close, I’ll walk away from this vacation with a double broken heart.

Excerpt

Jet stares down at his hands as he plays the guitar effortlessly. When he starts singing, it’s soft and he still doesn’t raise his head.

It takes a couple of lines to realize it’s a slower version of that pop song “Someone Else’s Perfect” by Eleven.

The song completely transforms coming out of Jet’s mouth. It’s no longer a teenybopper love song, but one of heartbreak and angst. I guess I’ve never listened to the lyrics before.

Under your spell,

Living in hell,

You say I’m perfect,

Too good to be someone’s reject,

But that’s what you did when you walked away,

You left me to find myself

Something niggles at me. Whether it’s the way he’s singing it or that we both relate to it, I don’t know. It’s like he’s singing it to me. About me.

Then he finally raises his head and holds my gaze just as he sings a telling line.

You said I was perfect …

Perfect for someone else.

Holy. Shit.

That phrase is in the song repeatedly, and every time he sings it, more pain comes through in his voice. It gets to the point where I’m sure this isn’t an Eleven song. It can’t be. While Jet has the ability to turn any song into his own, this is different. It not only comes across as genuine, but the heartache and rejection make me feel guilty—as if I did something wrong.

He finishes the song and leaves the stage before people can beg him for another encore.

Only, he doesn’t come back to our table. He beelines it outside, leaving the rest of us staring at each other wondering what happened.

I’m the only one who knows for sure.

Matt stands to go after him, but I push him back down.

I’ll go.”

I follow where he went but reach outside and have no idea which way he’s gone. Following the path down to the wharf, I check to see if he’s sitting on the dock, but it’s empty. It’s on my way back that I see movement against the side of the main building.

Jet paces back and forth, running a hand through his hair and muttering words I can’t make out, but as I get closer, I hear “Get it together, Jay. Hold it to-fucking-gether.”

I step through the row of palm trees lining the path. “Jet.”

He freezes. “Of course, it’s you.” He goes back to pacing.

That song …”

Jet stares but doesn’t stop moving.

You wrote it.”

This makes him pause again. “I … I—”

About me.”

He composes himself. “Conceited much? You think you get more than one song?”

knew ‘Hat Trick Heartbreak’ was about me and not Ollie and Lennon.” I take a step forward. “But tell me I’m wrong about this one.”

Jet’s mouth opens and then closes.

I step closer again. “Jet.”

Why do you keep saying my name like that?”

To remind you that I know the real you. Not Jay. I still know you as the aspiring musician reveling over his first fan.”

The naïve kid, you mean.” Bitterness doesn’t suit the bubbly guy I know. Or … knew, I guess.

I keep moving closer. He steps back. We keep going until his back is against the wall and my hand is above his head, boxing him in.

I’ve never seen you as a kid. Never.”

Bullshit.”

I’ve tried to get myself to think of you that way, and when you’re not in my presence, it’s easy to write you off as Matt Jackson’s little brother. But I can’t when we’re in the same room sharing the same air. I can’t when you’re two feet in front of me, and all I want to do is reach for you. Touch you. Kiss you.”

Then what was all the overprotective shit you pulled that night in Tampa?”

That wasn’t me trying to protect you. That was me wanting to claim you.”

Jet breathes hard. “Oh, holy mother of gay Jesus.”

I had no right to act or feel that way about you back then.”

Our eyes lock on each other, and for a moment in time, we’re both frozen.

I’m sorry I wrote two emo songs about you,” Jet says quietly.

I laugh. “So, I am right.”

You’re the only one who’s ever picked up on that. Everyone thinks Eleven wrote that song.”

Maybe because I experienced it with you …”

Jet shakes his head. “No, it’s you. You understand me more than anyone ever has. More than any groupie who’s tried to explain my songs to me. You came out because you knew ‘He’s Mine’ wasn’t just a stupid love song.” He reaches for me, his fingertips trailing down my cheek. “It’s you.”

Unspoken Vow was totally different from Unwritten Law, still funny, but it also hurt my heart so much more than Unwritten Law. It just had a different vibe to Unwritten Law. It dealt with anxiety and the struggles Anders had to face and all I wanted to do was hug Anders so so much. Brody was perfect for him, he was patient and kind and just overall lovely.
I loved Unspoken Vow and will definitely reread it – and Unwritten Law – again this year.

Excerpt

My feet carry me across the apartment to Anders’ door, and I knock gently. “Anders?”

There’s a moan and then a curse.

I have no idea what I’m doing or what I’m going to say. Demanding answers isn’t an option, and neither is laying it all out there that I want more.

He still hasn’t opened the door.

I knock louder. “Anders? Are you okay?”

“Uh, hang on,” he calls out.

There’s something in his voice that sounds strained.

His footsteps get closer but then stop, and the door doesn’t budge. I lean in closer to try to hear more, which is when Anders, of course, opens it. I jump back but not fast enough.

He’s bare chested. Breathing hard. His face flushed. His mouth opens. Then closes.

That’s when I notice how poor a job his boxers are doing at hiding the giant erection trying to get free.

“Oh.” My gaze flies to his. “Oh. Umm, right. Okay. I … you know what, it’s not important.” I practically fall over myself trying to turn and get away as fast as I can, because oops. Interrupting a wank session is poor form.

A chuckle comes from behind me. “It’s your fault, you know.”

I spin to face him. “Mine? How?”

Anders closes the gap between us with torturously slow steps. “All I’ve been thinking about is kissing you again.”

I feel his voice all the way to my toes, making them curl into the carpet.

He’s a breath away now, so close I can smell sex on him as if he’s wearing it like cologne.

I want to close the gap. I want to kiss him. My gaze lands on his lips, and I feel my tongue run along my own.

“But we can’t,” he whispers. There’s absolutely no conviction behind it. It sounds more like resigned defeat.

“Why not?” My voice mimics his, low and sexy with a tiny hint of a growl.

Anders takes a step back as if needing space. “My therapist. She said we shouldn’t. Not until …”

“Until?”

“Until I’m ready.”

“I’m guessing you’re not going to be ready in say the next ten seconds?” I ask hopefully.

Anders laughs. “Goddammit.” He rushes me, almost knocking me off my feet as he claims my mouth.

I groan as his tongue meets mine and his hands embrace and cling to me. He pulls me close, and while I’m still so bloody confused, I can’t stop myself from taking it.
Anders murmurs words I can’t understand against my lips, but when he pulls back a tiny bit, no longer assaulting my mouth but still kissing me, I hear, “Why do you have to be so … you?”
He kisses my cheek, the side of my jaw, and my neck, while his impressive cock digs into my side. His lower half rubs against me, and my own cock wants friction, but my head gets stuck on his words.

“What do you mean, why do I have to be me? What’s wrong with being me?”

“I’ve tried everything to make you unsexy in my head. Only, it’s not working. I still go to bed with you on my mind and my hand on my dick.”

His breath is hot on my skin. “I’ve been trying to be good. Trying not to touch you. Trying to forget how good it felt to have your cock in my mouth. I’ve been trying to avoid this. I don’t want to freak out again. But you feel so damn, amazing, Brody.”

He’s moving into rambling territory as he ruts against me, and I throw my head back when our cocks line up through our boxers.

If we keep going like this, we’re no doubt going to fall over.

“Couch,” I croak.

His head snaps back, and he looks me in the eyes. “Couch?”

“Pin me again. Make it so I can’t move from beneath you and take what you need.”

“Brody,” he whines but pushes me towards the couch.

I fall onto my back, but I get a chance to whip my shirt over my head before Anders’ hard body lands on top of me.

I lift my hands above my head, joining them at the wrists.

“Hold me in place,” I encourage. If this is what he needs to get off, I’m more than willing to give it to him.

As much as I’m dying to touch him and hope one day I’ll be able to, this, what we have right here, is more than enough for me.

[ARC REVIEW] Deke by Eden Finley

About the book

Deke
(Fake Boyfriend #3)
by Eden Finley

ebook
Publication Date: January 9th 2019

Ollie

Word of advice: don’t come out to random guys in public restrooms. Even if they’re charming and adorably nerdy and offer to help.

My family believe I can’t be happy if I’m not out to the world. I have a bitter ex-boyfriend and an unstable NHL career to show for it. A fake boyfriend seems like an easy and quick solution to get my family off my back, and this guy is volunteering. I take him up on it without asking his name.

I really should’ve asked for his name.

Lennon

Word of advice: learn how to introduce yourself properly.

In my defense, I don’t recognize Ollie Strömberg right away. I cover football, not hockey.

I’m not supposed to see him again, and he’s never supposed to find out I’m a reporter.

That all changes when my editor reassigns me.

It’s a lesson I should’ve learned by now. Nothing’s changed since high school. Jocks still hate nerds. But even worse, athletes hate journalists. Especially ones who know their secret.

*Deke is a full-length MM novel with a HFN/HEA and no cliffhanger*

review

~ ARC provided by author in exchange for my honest opinion

Sweet Neil Patrick in a harness (read the book and you will understand this), this book was soooo good. The ARC hit my kindle when I still had a friend over and it might have been possible that I was a bit annoyed that she hasn’t gone home yet, so I could read it. Just a teeny-tiny bit.

After reading Trick Play, the second book in the series, I was totally expected a book about Talon, because his story was kind of teased about, but instead Eden gave us Lennon and Ollie and I have to say I’m absolutely not mad about that.

Like the previous books Deke was an absolute joy to read. It was funny – freaking hilarious to be honest, that joint scene really got me laughing my ass off – and I loved the characters, even though I wasn’t sure I would like Lennon, when Eden announced that he would be one of the main characters. I had absolutely no reason to worry, he was awesome.

Even though the next book in this series won’t be a fake boyfriend type of book, I can’t wait for Talon’s book and would love to get my hand on it yesterday.

I totally recommend Deke to anyone, in fact I’m planning to reread it again this evening. You might want to start with Fake Out though so you get to meet the whole clan, even though all the books can be read as stand-alones in my opinion.

I want to give 4,75 stars, because I rarely give the full 5 stars but to hell with it, every single book of this series deserves 5 stars.

[ARC REVIEW] Trick Play by Eden Finley

About the book

Trick Play
(Fake Boyfriend #2)
by Eden Finley

ebook
Publication Date: June 27th 2018
>> Review copy provided by author in exchange for my honest opinion <<

Matt:

Want to know the fastest way to get screwed out of a football career? Get photographed in a compromising position in a gay bar. Yep, welcome to my life.

My agent says he can fix my image. He wants me to become the poster boy for gay football players. Me? I just want back on the field. I’ll do anything to play for the NFL again, even pretend to have a steady boyfriend. If only my fake boyfriend wasn’t Noah Huntington III—the most arrogant, entitled rich guy in the world.

Noah:

Pretend to be Matt Jackson’s boyfriend, my best friend said. It’ll be fun, he said. What Damon neglected to mention is Matt is surly and bitter. Being his boyfriend is a job in itself. From his paranoia over being constantly photographed to his aversion to PDA, being with Matt isn’t the care-free fake relationship I expected when I signed on to do this.

It’s supposed to be a win-win. I get to stick it to my politician dad who thinks no one is good enough for the Huntington name, and Matt’s reputation of being the bad boy of football dies.

What I don’t expect is to start caring for the guy. That’s not part of the plan. Then again, neither is fooling around with him on my private jet.

Oops.

review
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Trick Play, make that a capital LUCKY, because I’m in love with this series. It is the second book in the Fake Boyfriend series and I read most of it on my 2h train ride, which was a bad idea, because it’s funny. Like laugh-out-loud funny. Not a good thing to read on a stuffed train. I got some ‘huh?’-glares.

Another thing I loved about Trick Play was that the characters are really relatable, also did I mention the book was funny? Noah’s brand of humour is totally my type of humour and Matt was funny as well. The drama was on-point for me, not too much and not too less. Also the fake-boyfriend-trope is one of my favourites and I like how it gets delivered here in Trick Play and in the previous one Fake Out (check it out, trust me).

I highlighted so much stuff in my copy (which I don’t normally do that much), some funny scenes/sentences, some sappy moments, especially that very last sentence in the book. It melted my heart. So adorbs.

Here is one quote that is absolutely spoilerfree 😉

Someone get me a crash card, because my ego just flatlined.

I can’t wait for book three. Is it out yet? LOL, no, I’m totally not impatient, and I absolutely want a book about the character, whose story wasn’t planned that way (I won’t mention the name, because spoiler?)

Excerpt

The sound of water crashing over the bow reaches our room from the black abyss that is the Atlantic Ocean. Sitting on the small couch in our cabin and drinking a beer is peaceful until Noah opens his mouth.

“We should make out.”

I choke and splutter on my beer. “Why in the hell should we do that?”

“I’m not hitting on you, you jackass.”

“Pretty sure askin’ me to kiss you contradicts that statement.”

“Hear me out. You’re uncomfortable in public, and we don’t know each other. The way to make it look natural is if we are natural. Therefore, if we make out, you’ll loosen up.”

I hate that he has a point, but we can’t cross those lines. “We should make this a purely platonic arrangement so there’s no confusion.”

“There will be no confusion on my part. I understand why you’d be hesitant, because, well, look at me. You’re worried about liking it too much.” Noah gestures to himself, and I force myself not to look.

“Yeah, you’re lucky I haven’t jumped you already.” Even though he does have a great body. Damn him.

“I could goad you into doing it, but I don’t think I have to. You know this is a good idea.”

“It’s really not.”

“Scared you’re going to fall for me?” he taunts. “All the boys do.”

“Fall for your wallet, maybe,” I mumble.

His eyes turn a stormy gray as they narrow, and if looks could kill—

“Fall for you after one kiss?” I scoff. “Not possible.”

It’s not possible after multiple kisses. I reckon I’m incapable of love, because I don’t know what the fuck it is.

Noah moves closer.

“Noah …” I shift on the seat.

“You’re way too uptight. I promise I’m not trying to fuck you. Although, that could definitely be fun.”

A tentative hand skims up my side and around my back.

My body freezes, and if Noah thought I was uptight thirty seconds ago, it’s nothing compared to how tense I am right now.

“We have a photoshoot in two days.” His breath tickles my cheek. “You’re going to have to be relaxed and pretend you like me.”

“So, we can do this then.” My voice cracks and I clear my throat. “I don’t understand the point of it now.”

“Breathe,” Noah says. “And just let me kiss you.”

This is a stupid idea. Really stupid. Even so, there’s a part of me that not only wants it but hopes he has a point, because there’s no way I can pretend to be in love with a guy I don’t know and am nervous around.

“Fine.” I lean forward and put my beer on the coffee table in front of us.

He stares at me dumbfounded, as if he wasn’t expecting me to give in. Maybe this is a game to him. If it is, he’s winning.

That doesn’t stop either of us from moving closer to one another.

My lips inch toward his but before I kiss him, I add in a low voice, “This is an experiment only. A one-time thing.”

“Matt—”

“This isn’t going to work, and when it doesn’t, I will gladly rub it in your face every day we have to play this stupid charade.”

Noah laughs, as if he knows I’m trying to convince myself and not him, but I cut him off with my mouth on his. My tongue pushes past his lips, and I refuse to let out the groan that tries to escape when it meets his. Two seconds into the kiss, I know this is a huge mistake.

I ignore the tightening in my pants and the shiver that runs through me as his hand trails down my spine. Then, suddenly, I’m on my back as he pins me to the sofa that’s way too small to fit both of us.

That doesn’t stop us, though.

His cock lines up with mine, and even through two layers of suit pants, I know he’s long and thick.

Shit, don’t think about his dick.

Noah’s lips break away from mine and skim my bearded cheek. “Thought you said you weren’t going to enjoy this.” His breath is warm in my ear.

“I’m not.” Hmm, probably would’ve been more convincing if my voice didn’t crack like a twelve-year-old seeing his first dirty magazine … or in my case a football magazine. Boys in tight pants and pads? It’s no wonder I loved the sport when Dad first forced me to play.

Noah rotates his hips slowly, grinding his hard body against my even harder cock. “Pretty sure this says otherwise.”

“I’m a gay man with a hot guy’s tongue down my throat. It’s simple chemistry. It doesn’t mean anything.”

“You’re wrong. This is anything but simple.” Noah’s mouth comes back down on mine again, and this time, I can’t hold back the moan.

I’m no longer on the ship. I’ve fallen overboard and am drowning in Noah, and I don’t want to come up for air.

“Matt,” he murmurs against my mouth, and his voice may as well have been a bucket of ice.

I push him off me and sit up, straightening my shirt and my composure in the process. “See. Didn’t work.”

I reach for my beer to wash the taste of Noah down.

He wipes his mouth and breaks into a cocky-ass smile. “So you felt nothing, huh?”

“Right.” More beer goes down my throat.

“Keep telling yourself that.”

Irresponsibility takes a backseat when tragedy strikes the royal family. Gone are the days of being the reluctant prince. Instead, duty and obligation become Xander’s life. Until he meets Delia.

Not as lady-like as she seems.
Lady Cordelia Hillington was raised right. She knows how to act appropriately in public and appear demure in front of the dignitaries she grew up around. Which is why Prince Alexander is taken aback by dirty promises falling out of her mouth at a charity event.

After a steamy night at an anonymous, high-end sex club with a handsome stranger wearing a mask, Xander and Delia are desperate to find their Cinderella man. Little do they know, he’s closer than either of them would suspect.

Determined to remain professional.
Roman Elliot, former soldier turned royal guard, has kept his feelings for the prince a secret for years. His job is everything to him, and he’s not going to do anything to jeopardize it. That’s the plan until he finds Prince Alexander at a sex club with none of his security detail accompanying him.

It’s a night Roman wishes he could forget but being assigned as Delia’s protector for the summer makes it hard. He can’t let them know it was him they spent a night with, but he gets the feeling both Xander and Delia already might know …

**Unprincely is a 54,000-word MMF contemporary royal novel with over the top characters, impromptu proposals, and just a touch of Cinderella-ism. HEA guaranteed.**

review

This was way better than I anticipated. Why you ask?

When Eden Finley offered ARCs, I told her I would love to read it but I was also upfront and told her I wasn’t sure I would like it, because quite frankly m/m/f is not really my genre. She gave me one anyway, which makes her awesome.

Starting this book I tried to go into it without comparing it to any other m/m/f book I read and disliked before, and I think that worked out great. Another thing that made me like this book was definitely Eden Finley’s writing style. There is just something about it that drew me in from the first page and I probably would have finished it in one sitting if I hadn’t decided to start it in a parking lot waiting for my brother.

While I’m still not 100% on board with the whole threesome relationship going on in this book, I liked a lot better than in other books I’ve read. Maybe because I really liked all three of the people involved individually as well. Xander, Roman and Delia were just really likeable characters and while I may have rooted for Xander and Roman to kick Delia out and start a M/M relationship – I hope you can forgive me for that lol – I actually liked those three together. They fit.

I’m actually surprised I liked this book so much and I am going to read the second book in this series – willingly, because I want to ;). One other reason I can think of why I liked this better than other books, is that there weren’t as many sex scenes as I thought there would be. Don’t get me wrong, I had nothing against threesome sex scenes, they are pretty hot. It’s just that in my opinion m/m/f books are usually flotted with them and there is no story aside from it whatsoever. It’s just one sex scene after another after another, you get my drift. Unprincely was different in that regard. I liked it. The three different POVs might have also been a factor. I’m a sucker of various POVs.

Unprincely might be the first m/m/f book I actually enjoyed, so kudos to you Eden Finley. Well done.

[Review] One Night with Rhodes by Eden Finley

About the book

One Night with Rhodes
(One Night Series #4)
by Eden Finley

ebook
Publication Date: May 22nd 2017
>> Review copy provided by the author in exchange for my honest opinion <<

Blair Rhodes considers himself an equal opportunity player. He knew from a young age that he wasn’t entirely straight. Ogling his best friend’s older brother was the first thing that tipped him off. But Garrett Erikson is off limits. Always has been. Garrett is as straight as they come.

Garrett’s reputation as a womaniser precedes him, but it’s not who he is. Not even close. And when Blair turns up on his doorstep, heartbroken over a breakup, Garrett knows it’s a bad idea to go drinking with him.

One night is all it takes for everything to change.

For the past ten years, Garrett’s denied his desires to everyone, including himself.
And as much as Blair wants to be the guy Garrett needs, he needs to protect his own heart. Like his ex-boyfriend always told him: “Never mess with the straight ones. It only leads to trouble.”

review

One Night with Rhodes is my second book by Eden Finley, the first one was Fake Out (totally recommend this one, btw).

I will say right away that I loved One Night with Rhodes, except for one tiny things. That thing was this: The first chapter played in 2016, the chapters after that played in the time from 2011 till 2016, for a really big part of the book. I think it took to around 90% till we caught up to that first scene. And while I absolutely did not mind that, it still felt a bit flashback-like. I think if the first chapter wasn’t there I wouldn’t have had that problem. This is me nitpicking by the way, I read the whole thing till 4:30am in the morning, so that should tell you everything.

By the way in case you are considering reading this book, please know that the relationship between Garrett and Blair is an on/off-relationship, so if you don’t want to see the main couple with different partners throughtout this book (only in the off-phase though), this book probably isn’t for you. Just saying.

Blair was a really nice, considerate and patient guy, he didn’t push and I really loved him. Garrett on the other hand, while I also loved him, I wanted to hit him on the head from time to time, just because some of the things he’s done. I get it, but still, sometimes I want the ability to reach into a book and shake some sense into the characters. Who wouldn’t like to have that ability though? 🙂 These two had a lot of ups-and-downs, but I loved those.

If you are into M/M romances, where one of the guy is closeted, with an on/off relationship, this probably is your piece of cake. Did I mention their crazy family/friends? Hilarious. And the sarcasm. I love sarcasm. You might want to give One Night with Rhodes a try.
