[Review] Justice Ascending by Rebecca Zanetti

About the book

Justice Ascending
(The Scorpius Syndrome #3)
by Rebecca Zanetti

ebook, 400 pages
Publication Date: January 31st 2017 by Zebra

Before surviving the Scorpius bacterium, Tace Justice was a good ole Texas cowboy who served his country and loved his mama. After Scorpius, the world became dark, dangerous, and deadly… and so did he. The Vanguard medic is stronger, faster, and smarter than before, but he’s lost the line between right and wrong. His passion is absolute, and when he focuses it on one woman, there’s no turning back for either of them.

Sami Steel has been fighting to survive right alongside Tace, convincing the Vanguard soldiers she’s one of them. In truth, Sami is a former hacker turned government agent who worked at The Bunker, where scientists stored both contaminants and cures. Only she knows the location, and she’s not telling. Yet when sexual fire explodes between her and Tace, she’ll face even that hell again to save him.

I might have been way to happy when I saw the email from NetGalley telling me I got approved for this title, just saying. I usually hate book that deal with apocalypse themes, but this series had sucked me in right from the beginning.

I love the world that Rebecca Zanetti has created and her characters as well. Also I love how she gives us one piece of the puzzle that brings as one step closer to beating Scorpius but also it opens up a whole lot of more questions. I’m quite curious how that whole problem with Scorpius will be resolved in the future books and what characters will get their books next. I’m hoping for a particular couple that we got to meet in Justice Ascending, but whose names I can’t write without it being major spoilers.

On to the characters of Justice Ascending.
First we have Tace. I loved Tace since Mercury Striking. He has his dark and his light sides and I loved his reaction to Sami’s confession. Yes, he was pissed, but he also understood her.
Then we have Sami. She has her own head and will do what she has to do to save the ones she loves. I loved her from the beginning as well.

Those two together – they were explosive. They had their fights, but also their cute and funny moments. Truth be told, I shipped them since book one and I would have been mad had they not ended up together. Also I loved how Sami would take BS from Tace. Their fights were fun to read. We need more strong women in action books – well, in books in general.

Speaking of action, the action in this book was on point. While reading Justice Ascending, I felt like watching a good action movie on TV. On one hand I wish to be a part of this story, but on the other hand I’m glad I’m not, because I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t survive more than 2 days in this new world by Rebecca Zanetti.

On another note: I love how Rebecca Zanetti incorporates the last names of her heroes in the title of their books. I’m curious what the next book will be called.

All in all, another great addition to the series and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I hope our heroes find a cure on the way – but not to soon. I want to read another few books of the Scorpius Syndrome series first.

[Review] Shadow Falling by Rebecca Zanetti

About the book

Shadow Falling
(The Scorpius Syndrome #2)
by Rebecca Zanetti

ebook
Publication Date: August 30th 2016 by Zebra

Before the Scorpius Syndrome tore through North America and nearly wiped out the population, Vivienne Wellington was the FBI’s best profiler. The bacteria got her anyway. But she survived. She recovered. And when she woke up from a drug-nightmare of captivity, her skills as a hunter of men had gone from merely brilliant to full-on uncanny. Her mysterious rescuer wants her to put them to the test. But no matter how tempting he is, with his angel’s eyes and devil’s tongue, Vinnie knows she shouldn’t trust him.

If the FBI were still around they would rate Raze Shadow as one of the bad guys. His military training can’t wipe out his association with the Mercenaries, the most feared gang in a thousand miles. His loyalties are compromised. He won’t even tell Vinnie his real name. But there’s no FBI in the new America of fear and firepower, only instinct and risk.

And the way his arms wrap around Vinnie tells its own story. Whatever else Raze is concealing, he can’t hide his desire . . .

review~ Book provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion

I admit I wasn’t totally convinced after reading Mercury Striking, book one in this series, but I loved the world building enough to request Shadow Falling. And I liked it a lot better than book one. The world building was still great and I can’t wait to see how the fight with the bacterium will go on in the next books.

But the real reason why I liked Shadow Falling was this one:

First, Raze was much more likeable than Jax. Second, Vivienne was much more likeable than Lynne. Those two as a couple made a lot more sense than Jax and Lynne. I really, really liked Raze and Vivienne together.

Also I can’t wait to see what will happen with Sami and Tace, also I think Maureen and Greyson would make a good couple. I can’t wait to see what more Rebecca Zanetti has up her sleeve.

Ten books I will probably never read

Ok, I know I will probably earn a lot of hate with this list, but whatever. Also this post was way harder to write than I thought. It’s just that usually I think about what books I want to read and not which I don’t want to read. Anyway, let’s start.

  1. Divergent by Veronica Roth: Just no.
  2. Anything by Nicholas Sparks: I just hate 100% romances, they are just way to cheesy for me and I’ve tried to read one Sparks novel and let me tell you something. I through it after a rough 20% across my room (and I usually don’t do that with books), but it deserved it. I think afterwards I gave it to the welfare.
  3. The Host by Stephenie Meyer: Can I repeat myself? Just no.
  4. Through The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi: I hated the first novel in the series, so why should I bother picked up the second one?
  5. Unraveled by Gena Showalter: Loved her Lords Of The Underworld series, but the first books of this series wasn’t it for me, so I won’t bother with reading Unraveled.
  6. Marked by P.C. & Kristin Cast: Never!
  7. The Dead Girls’ Dance by Rachel Caine: Glasses Houses, the first in series, was just bad – no other way to describe it – so nope, won’t pick this up.
  8. Rosemarie and Rue by Seanan McGuire: I tried a sample of this, but it constains fae. Fae and me do not mix, so no.
  9. Kindling Moon by Jenn Bennett: Kind of the same problem like with Rosemarie and Rue, only this time it’s about magician.
  10. Claimed by Rebecca Zanetti: I tried Fated and I just did not like it. It made absolutely no sense, so why should I care for Claimed?

Here is was my “No”-list. What books will you never pick up? Leave your link in the comment section below.
